The Spousal Sponsorship program is a subsection of the Family Class immigration category in Canada. Returning Canadian citizens or permanent residents living inside or outside of Canada may sponsor their spouse, common-law partner, conjugal partner, and dependent child for immigration to Canada. Sponsorship applications may take approximately 12-24 months to process from start to finish.

Applicants within Canada may be eligible for an open work permit, allowing him or her to work in Canada while the application is being processed.
